Train Examiner Operations

Metlink train services across the Greater Wellington rail network are operated by Transdev Wellington on behalf of the Greater Wellington Regional Council.

What the role involves:
To support the Transdev Wellington (TDW) business in the safe operation of Metlink services and being responsible for the following:
- Be safety conscious and proactive regarding safety.
- Support Kiwirail locomotive hauled passenger (Tranz Scenic) services
- Complete and submit all applicable reports and documentation.
- Promote Transdev Wellington by providing a high standard of customer service
Key accountabilities include:
- Daily operational instructions as per relay reports
- Coupling & uncoupling EMU units.
- Piloting, brake testing TDW and Tranz Scenic carriage services
- Brake testing TDW EMU’s
- Assist with the EMU wash.
- Shunting duties as required by MU Depot Manager and Operations Supervisor Yard.
- At any time during shift undertake other duties as instructed by Operations Supervisor Yard subject to certification.
- Operate rail services, in accordance with applicable authorised instructions:
- Have a good working knowledge of:
- Rail Operating Rules & Procedures (RORP)
- Rail Operating Code (ROC)
- Working Timetable
- Bulletins/Notices
- Familiarise and put in practice the Rule of the Week
- Fully conversant with Local Instructions Operating Procedures Transdev Wellington
What we're looking for:
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of rail operating rules and procedures, the rail operating code, bulletins and any special instructions as issued
- Have Operational knowledge of all our rolling stock including, but not limited to, knowledge of train handling, braking systems, mechanical faults and failures and all duties necessary for the operations of Transdev services
- A full clean New Zealand Driver’s licence.
