Head Groundsperson


About the Role

As Head Groundsperson, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a top prestigious school, including the gardens, green spaces, and sports grounds.  You will be responsible for leading our team on site to deliver the work schedule, whilst being a key point of contact for the Commercial Account Manager and the client representatives. 

The role will suit someone who is comfortable leading one or two others in all aspects of general garden maintenance and horticulture and someone who has a strength in turf maintenance and sports ground management.

You will be supported by the larger Ventia commercial team for specialist input, additional manpower, material, and maintenance requirements.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Day to day task planning in collaboration with the Commercial Account Manager
  • Preparing enhancement proposals that deliver improvements to the College grounds
  • Managing site safety, productivity and quality
  • Managing compliance with systems and procedures
  • Delivering the physical work as part of the team
  • Overseeing the seasonal tasks completed by specialist teams
  • Fostering a positive team culture that promotes respect, professionalism, and excellence
  • Training and developing your team
  • Preparing for events and holiday programmes
  • Reporting to management and clients
  • Managing machinery and equipment with support from your operations manager


About You

  • Have a passion for sports turf and take satisfaction in delivering a high-quality site
  • Hold qualifications in Turf Management and/or Horticulture
  • Previous experience working to agreed delivery standards
  • Experience managing a team of people as well as subcontractors or temporary resources
  • Comfortable working client facing
  • Experience using software systems or apps to record operational tasks
  • Experience with various types of machinery and equipment – mowers, vehicles, small plant
